Ardoch
Algonquin First Nation
Bursary
and Scholarship Program
General
Information: Ardoch Algonquin First Nation has begun a fundraising drive through
WATE Community and Cultural Development Services to provide bursaries and
scholarships to members of the community who are pursuing postsecondary
education or training in a college, university, or other training or educational
program. These bursaries and scholarships are contingent on funding but we do
expect to be able to provide modest funds to members on a year to year basis.
This year’s bursaries and scholarships will be announced at the annual Wild
Game Dinner and the funds will be available for students at the start of classes
in the fall.
Application
Process: Members of the community may apply by filling out the form below and
e-mailing it back to the scholarship and bursary program at the following e-mail
account: aafna.scholarships@hotmail.com
Application
Due Date: All applications are due by May 1, 2007. Applications received after this date will not be
considered for this year’s bursaries or scholarships.
Requirements:
Students are required to use the funds they receive to support postsecondary
training or education. This includes tuition, housing, books and materials, and
other related expenses. Members who use the funds for purposes other than those
expenses related to their pursuit of postsecondary training or education will jeopardize
their chances for future awards.
Community
Involvement: Ka-Pishkawandemin,
The Family Head’s Council is determined to support the post-secondary
education and training for members of the community so that they can attend
college, university, training school, or other educational programs. This
determination on the part of the Council is the result of many years of
struggling to articulate the autonomy and sovereignty of the community and of
Indigenous peoples in general. The Council will do its best to provide these
bursaries and scholarships for community members so that they can pursue higher
education and hopefully bring those graduates with their knowledge and skills
back to the community to help with the future development of the community. The
goal is a safe and sustainable community with a distinct identity as Algonquin
people. Our children are the key to making that happen so we want to provide as
much support as we can while they are in postsecondary education.
Note:
Students who receive a bursary or scholarship should be willing to support their
community by volunteering to be available for various events, gatherings, and
fundraising initiatives throughout the year. If distance prevents a student from
volunteering to work in person at an event, there are other ways of helping that
can be arranged. Community participation will also be one of the things that the
postsecondary committee considers when making final decisions on bursary or
scholarship applications in the future.
*Note:
Be sure to e-mail your application prior to May 1, 2007. You may also fax
your application to Membership: 1-613-375-6485.
