Ardoch Algonquin First Nation is in the process of building a community centre on Algonquin land at Pine Lake. Construction of the community centre and subsequent furnishing of the building has been estimated at over $350,000 for a state of the art centre that will be capable of providing the space needed for the programs and services that Ardoch Algonquin First Nation will provide for its members and off-reserve Indigenous peoples. Ardoch Algonquin First Nation does not have sufficient funds available to make this dream a reality for our children and grandchildren. Therefore we need your help to make this dream come true. Ardoch Algonquin First Nation needs as many people as possible to contribute financially to the construction and subsequent furnishing of the building.
The driving force behind this endeavour is our children, grandchildren, and the ones yet to come. Indigenous children in Canada make-up the largest percentage of the total Indigenous population, so our communities are relatively youthful compared to other populations in Canada. In many ways this is positive and indicates our potential to grow and to survive as distinct peoples into the future. This potential is often clouded by the reality of recent statistics which reveal that our youthful population (boys and girls) are ten times more likely to commit suicide or become involved with the criminal justice system as other populations in Canada. These statistics are alarming when you think of the consequences to the future survival of Indigenous peoples. If our populations are youthful and yet those youths have the highest rates of suicide, we will not have communities at all in the future if the situation is not reversed.
Ardoch Algonquin First Nation recognizes this danger and is committed to providing solutions for our present and future members in the form of cultural and linguistic programming and services, education and training, spirituality and ceremonies and counseling and health services among others. These programs and services offer individuals the opportunity to come to know themselves as Algonquin people who have long standing relationships with the land and water scapes around them. This is an important step to combat the problems that youths are facing because studies have shown that Indigenous cultures, languages, and spiritual practices instills responsibility and fosters leadership skills in individuals. Youths who are secure in their identity and feel positive about their place in their world, do not commit suicide. Therefore this centre is of vital importance to the Ardoch community and particularly to our children and youths.
While we are firm in our commitment to nurturing values in our children and future generations, we need a community centre in which to offer those programs and services on a daily basis. Ardoch Algonquin First Nation cannot construct this centre alone because we do no have the financial resources to do so. Without your support our dream to build this centre for our children and future generations cannot succeed.
We need you! Please support our efforts by making your donation today……………..
